L'UN DES NÔTRES

L’image erronée que l’on a de certains lieux tels que l’hôpital psychiatrique, le cimetière ou encore la prison a pour origine les représentations transmises à travers divers médias et finalement intégrées par l’imaginaire collectif.

Cet imaginaire nourrit une vision fantasmée qui confère à ce lieu une fonction cathartique, permettant à la société de se purifier de ses peurs latentes et ses déviances inassouvies en les projetant sur l’univers carcéral.

La prison est un espace qui nourrit et se nourrit de la société, à laquelle elle empreinte certains codes, tout en ayant sur elle de multiples impacts au niveau social, politique, ou encore économique.

Elle est le reflet d’une société à un moment donné, et ne peut donc aspirer à être qualifiée de « modèle » compte tenu du fait que sa conception est amenée à évoluer, pour s’adapter aux contextes politiques, sociaux et culturels changeant.

Tenir à l’écart tout en intégrant, tel est le dilemme auquel se trouve confronté l’architecte pour mieux appréhender l’univers carcéral et ses acteurs directs ou indirects, en favorisant la reconstruction sur la destruction, tant sur le plan humain qu’architectural.

English Abstract :

The wrong images we have about certain places such as psychiatric hospitals, cemeteries or prisons originate from the representations conveyed through various media and have eventually become part of our collective psyche.

This imaginary world inspires a fantasized conception which endows this place with a cathartic function, enabling society to purify itself from its latent fears and unappeased deviances by projecting them onto the prison world.

Prison is a space that feeds and is fed by society, from which it borrows certain codes, while having numerous social, political, and economic impacts on society.

It is the reflection of a society in a given moment, and therefore will never be considered as a "model" considering that its concept keeps evolving, to adapt to changing political, social and cultural backgrounds.

Keeping away as well as integrating, such is the dilemma that architects are confronted with to better understand the prison world and its direct or indirect players, by fostering reconstruction over destruction, on both a human and architectural level.
